Workshop Description
This workshop will introduce students to the creative possibilities and numerous artistic approaches that can be achieved under the heading of Cartooning.
Participants will learn about the different forms cartooning can take and will experiment through creating an original cartooning project of their own.
Some scholarships are available, please email Alan to schedule a class or with any questions.
This class is available for participants 10+ through our Classes on Demand Program, which allows you to arrange the class you want on your terms. It’s as easy as finding at least two friends or family members to join you and then proposing a class time to the instructor.

COMICS, CARTOONS, AND...
WHEN: To be decided by participants, 2 hours long
FEES: $30 per person, minimum 3 people
About the Instructor
Instructor Alan Bessen is the creator of Fuzzboy Comics and has nearly ten years of experience teaching cartooning, Photoshop, comic book illustration, and editorial design in New York area schools.
Alan worked as a professional freelance illustrator before turning to education. In addition to working as a Graphic Artist at Display Technologies, he created and currently heads the after-school cartooning program at The Dalton School, works with the Educational Alliance at Tompkins Square Middle School, and teaches a cartooning elective at Brooklyn International High School.
Alan has received honors and awards for excellence in teaching, and incorporates history and literary skills into lesson plans that cover everything from cartooning by hand to the applications of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Alan studied at the New School Computer Instruction Center and received his BFA at the School for Visual Arts.
